Statue of Achilles

Statue of Achilles

In 1982, the statue of Achilles was set up in Saint Lucas Square, on Timphristou Street. Achilles, the mythical hero of the Trojan War, was the son of Peleus, the King of the Myrmidons in Fthia and the Nereid Thetis. Lamia is the city that claims the birth of Achilles. Moreover, Lamia is the city that was built on the ruins of the oldest city called ”Greece”, one of the most important cities that belonged to Achilles’ territory. At the base of the statue there is an inscription:

«Αχιλλέα, ο Όμηρος σε ύμνησε, η Λαμία σε τίμησε».

Translation:

“Achilles, Homer praised you, Lamia honored you”.

He is one of the most iconic heroes of ancient Greek history.
