Museum of National Resistance of Lamia

The National Resistance Museum (1940-1944) was founded in 2009 and is housed in the Lamia City Hall. The aim is to save, preserve and transmit the historical memory of Occupation and Resistance to the new generations when Lamia played an important role against the armed forces of the conquerors. 

The exhibition is divided into four sections covering the period of the Greek-Italian War, the Occupation, the Resistance and the Liberation of Lamia and the wider region. The photographic material flows abundantly with images of the bombarded Fthiotic capital in April 1941, the German invasion, hunger and deprivation, disasters and reprisals. Particular reference is made to the “Harling” operation of the blasting of the Gorgopotamos Bridge.Also available are the maps of military operations that illustrate ELAS’s armed action in Roumeli, the documents with the names of dozens of executed by the conquerors in Lamia and various personal objects of the fighters, weapons, munitions and original documents. 

Τhe National Resistance Museum is open from Monday to Friday 09:00. – 13:30 and is waiting for you to transmit the knowledge and the climate of the era.
