Monument of Alamana
The monument is located on the bridge of Alamanas, next to the Athens-Lamia National Road and depicts Athanasio Diako armed, holding a broken sword in his right hand, just as he did during the battle. It is the place where Alaman’s battle between the Grecian and Ottoman hordes took place on April 22 of 1821 and the place where Athanasios Diakos was arrested. The arrest and torture of Athanasios Diakos influenced the national consciousness.
The Battle’s significance lies in giving Odysseus Androutsos the necessary time to organize the resistance at the Gravia hill and that inspired the pan-Hellenic soul to fight for the freedom of the nation.
