Folklore Museum of Fthiotis
The Folklore Museum of Fthiotida was founded in 1984. It is housed in a newly-built privately owned building on Kalivas – Bakoyannis Street. The purpose of creating the Folklore Museum was to study, preserve and promote traditional culture of the pre-industrial society of Roumeli.
There are presented professions of the historical period before the Industrial Revolution, some of which have been eliminated and others have been preserved to date by modernizing the production process, and exhibits from everyday life, such as costumes, loom, bridal bed, home and kitchen utensils of the traditional house, etc. Also there is a conference room with a library rich in historical and folklore material. It is worth mentioning that the Folklore Museum has undertaken many times the publication of books such as “Traditional Recipes Roumeli”, “Folklore of Fthiotida” etc.
The Folklore Museum of Fthiotida invites the public to get to know the habits, behaviors and actions of the pre-industrial society every Monday – Friday: 9:00 am. – 14:00 pm.
